본 연구는 ‘혼외관계’에 대한 우리의 인식과 사회적 수용이 과거에서 현재로 올수록 변화하고 있다는 점에 주목하고, 1990년대 이후 지상파에서 방영된 ‘혼외관계’, 즉 불륜을 소재로 한 TV 드라마가 재현하는 혼외관계의 서사 구조를 구체화하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 대표성 있는 드라마 23편을 선정하고 이들을 대상으로 토도로프(Todorov)의 통합체 분석과 레비스트로스(C. L?vi-Strauss)의 이항대립 구조에 기초한 계열체 분석으로 서사 분석을 시도하였다. 통합체 분석 결과 최근의 TV 드라마는 혼외관계를 중심으로 가정 유지 또는 가정 해체라는 서사구조를 가지고 있으며, 이를 통해 혼외관계를 애정 · 돈 · 출세 등의 욕망의 표현, 배신한 상대방 · 자신을 능멸한 존재에 대한 복수의 수단, 아름다운 사랑과 우정, 가정의 가치를 깨닫게 하는 기제들과 여성/아내의 각성 기제 등으로 의미화하고 있음을 보여 주었다. 계열체 분석을 통해서는 혼외관계를 중심으로 남성 대 여성, 아내 대 여성의 대립이 존재함을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 최근의 TV 드라마 속 혼외관계는 정상 가족으로 표상화되는 전통적인 가족주의의 유지라는 관점에서 부정적으로 묘사되면서도 이전 시기와는 달리, 혼외관계를 사적 감정 또는 이해할 만한 것으로 묘사함으로써 가치중립적이거나 긍정적 이미지를 추가로 동원하는 차별성을 보여 주었다. 그와 동시에 가정이란 낭만적 사랑에 따라 형성되었음에도 제도적 가족에 편입하는 모습을 보이는 모순된 가치가 부딪히는 장이며, 아내를 통해 가부장제에 기반을 둔 ‘전통적 가치’와 낭만적 사랑에 기반을 둔 ‘현대적 가치’가 충돌하는 지점을 확인하면서 여성 정체성의 문제를 제기하고, 경제적 욕망을 추구하며 혼외관계를 저지르거나 아내를 멸시하는 남성을 통해 물질적 욕구만을 추구하고 내적 가치를 잃는 소비 사회의 문제를 드러내고 있었다. 이는 전통과 현대적 가치가 충돌하고 나아가 정서적 교류 등의 내적 가치와 경제적 욕망이 충돌하면서 혼외관계의 의미나 가정의 의미도 복잡하고 혼돈스러워지고 있는 우리 사회의 변화상을 TV 드라마의 서사를 통해 투영해 내고있음을 보여 주는 것이라고 할 수 있다.

This study focuses on the fact that our perception on “extramarital relationships” and how it is accepted in our society have changed and sets out to specify the narrative structures of extramarital relationship in dramas since the 1990s that deal with affairs in detail. 23 dramas were chosen carefully and their narrative structure were analyzed based on Todorov’s integrated analysis and which is based on L?vi-Strauss, C.’s binary oppositions structure.
Results found from the integrated analysis show that recent TV dramas either keep their family together or not which is based on extramarital relationships. Results also indicated that extramarital relationship is used as a device to express desire for affection, money and success, also as a mean for revenge toward betrayal. Extramarital relationship is also used find true love/friendship and the true value of family and to awake those to be women and wife.
Results of the paradigmatic analysis show that conflict between male/female, wife/woman. Extramarital relationships presented in recent TV dramas are depicted as negative from a patriarchy family which appears to be a normal family. However, a difference lies where extramarital relationships may be understandable where value neutrality and positive image is added. At the same time, family is known to be based on love however institutional aspect is also included which is contradictory. It is also where the conflict between the “traditional value” based on patriarchy through the wife and “modern value” which is based on love. Consuming problems in society are also depicted through men who despise the wives who have extramarital relationships hoping for money that leads to the loss of internal value.
This study shows that the meaning of extramarital relationship or family is becoming more complex and confusing as conflict occurs between the traditional and modern value and internal and financial desire. As a result, narratives in recent TV dramas reflect all these aspects.
